Louis Wei is the 1st Steinway Young Artist in BC and the 2nd in Canada. Louis began playing piano at the age of 5 and has participated in many piano competitions including Kiwanis, BCRMTA and Richmond, winning many first prizes, trophies and scholarships. Louis Wei has performed around the world including in Haining, China in 2009 where he was invited by the Haining Musicians Association to perform as a soloist, and at Harvard University in 2011 for the annual Asian and International Relations Conference. Louis also gave a solo recital at the Gateway Theatre in Richmond in 2011 and performed with the New Westminster Symphony Orchestra at the University of British Columbia in 2012. In the summer of 2012 he attended the Aspen Music Festival and School, further developing his technique and musicianship with Yoheved Kaplinsky. In May 2013, Louis performed as a guest soloist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra after winning the Burnaby Clef Concerto Competition. In July, Louis held a charity piano concert with members of the Vancouver Young Pianists Club, donating a total of $3010 to the BC Children's Hospital. Louis also held another charity concert in Haining, China, donating a total of RMB 50,000 in instruments and music lessons to a local orphanage, and held masterclasses for students in Haining and Hangzhou. On September 29, 2013, Louis performed a solo concert for the 5th Vancouver Chinese Cultural Festival. Louis also organized a charity concert with VYPC, donating more than $6,000 to people in need in Sichuan, China. In 2014, Louis also performed the Yellow River Concerto as a guest soloist at the 6th Vancouver Chinese Cultural Festival. Louis is also involved in orchestral and band music and is one of the bassoonists of the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra as well as the St. George's Senior Band and the St. George's Honorary Wind Ensemble. After graduating from St George’s, Louis was admitted to the Ivy League Brown University, where he served as the principal pianist of the symphony orchestra during college.
